I think it is because life with a changing body is not immortal.
Hope you enjoy this story.
It was raining. Raindrops trickled into the lower grounds, eventually forming a puddle.
The rain stopped and a sparrow flew by to drink from the puddle.
A waterdrop spoke to the sparrow.
“Excuse me, hello! Do you happen to know who I am?”
The sparrow answered, “You are a waterdrop.”
The waterdrop was happy to know who he was and exclaimed, “I’m a waterdrop!’
He started putting himself as his priority. He started considering his own benefit and safety first.
He got stressed when children came to play around the water in the puddle.
He didn’t feel happy when the birds came to drink water either.
One day, the sparrow told him, “You don’t look happy at all. How did you end up like this?”
The sparrow flew away before he could answer.
The waterdrop began to ponder, ‘He’s right, I really am exhausted. Is life meant to be a continuous battle, trying to protect myself from my surroundings?’
The temperature dropped and the water in the puddle froze and became ice.
The waterdrop passed out in the process, and was surprised to find that his appearance had changed when he woke up.
The sparrow flew over and sat on the ice.
Confused, he asked the sparrow again. “Hi sir, why am I like this? Who am I?
The sparrow answered, “You are ice.”
He felt lost and confused about who he was.
As the day went on, the ice started to melt under the blazing sun. He started to resent the sun.
He thought to himself, ‘Why is it that everything around me seems to exist to torment me?’
The sun became even stronger, as if to mock him. The ice melted and turned into water, and eventually turned into vapor, evaporating into the air.
The vapor came across the sparrow again, this time flying.
He asked again in desperation, “Who the heck am I?!”
The sparrow answered nonchalantly, “You are vapor”
He passed out again, and when he woke up after a while, he felt at peace.
He gave up on questioning who he was. Instead, he was simply grateful that he was allowed to exist.
Deep regret came to his mind as he looked at the world, where everything was in harmony.
It would have been nice if I had helped more of the ones who were thirsty while I existed as water. I wish I had served more joyfully as a fun playground while I was ice, and brought moisture to the dry air while I was vapor.
He realized that existing as material is like practicing how to live for others.
It is to experience in advance the life of the Universe, which exists for the whole, as the whole, Since that is the true life that all existence will live when their material lifespan comes to an end.
He saw that it was starting to rain and told the rain,
“Have a good trip. It’s a very short trip and you’ll be back soon.”
